Ridgeway Sports and Social Club is run by a charity, the Ridgeway Memorial and Community and Sports Centre, which originated from a trust established in 1923 to commemorate the local men who lost their lives in the First World War, and the War Memorial on the grounds remembers those lost in both World Wars.
The land on which the hall and sports facilities are built was left in trust to the village and is maintained by a Board of Management, a committee made up of local residents.
The charity is run solely by volunteers and, as there is no financial support from the Council, funding is raised through hire of the facilities, farmers and craft markets and other fundraising events. Details of these can be found on the Events page.
The users of the grounds include Ridgeway Cricket, Tennis, Bowling and Football Clubs. There is also a children’s playing field and playground and the village hall, which is available for hire for social, fundraising or corporate events. Organisations regularly using the hall include Ridgeway Under Fives Pre-School, Ridgeway Primary School, the Women’s Institute, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides and there are yoga and karate classes held weekly, and links to all of these can be found on this site.
